Black-necked Stork

Large stately stork with an enormous black bill, black head and neck. Female has yellow eyes. In flight note white belly and mostly white wings with a central black panel, long red/pink legs trailing behind. Immature has darker upperwings. Usually found singly or in pairs around tropical wetlands and ponds.

The black-necked stork (Ephippiorhynchus asiaticus) inhabits freshwater wetlands, including lakes, ponds, marshes, and rivers in Sri Lanka. They also use artificial wetlands like irrigation canals, flooded rice paddies, and sewage ponds.

The black-necked stork's diet in Sri Lanka includes fish, reptiles, amphibians, crabs, molluscs, and insects. They are carnivorous birds that feed in shallow water.
