Orange-billed Babbler

A large, uniform rufous-brown babbler with conspicuous orange bill and feet, and a beady yellow eye. Highly gregarious, usually encountered in noisy flocks within wet rainforest understory. Orange-billed Babbler differs from the similar Yellow-billed Babbler in having a rufous body and orange legs and bill. Frequently vocal, giving a variety of rasping, chattering, and squeaking notes, grating calls, as well as laughterlike noises.

Its habitat is rainforest, and it is seldom seen away from deep jungle. This species, like most babblers, is not migratory, and has short rounded wings and a weak flight. Although its habitat is under threat, it occurs in all the forests of the wet zone, and is quite common at prime sites like Kitulgala and Sinharaja.

It feeds mainly on insects, but also eats jungle berries.
